Battery Energy Storage Accelerating The Decarbonized US Energy Economy

Clean, affordable, and reliable energy storage is a lynch pin of decarbonization. Technical innovation coupled with new policies and incentives have brought the levelized cost of energy (LCOE) of renewable + battery energy storage systems (BESS) on par with traditional generation. In 2022, renewable energy contributed about 20% (72 GW) of total US electricity generation capacity; this is forecasted to grow to 131 GW by 2024. As renewable energy capacity grows, BESS will play a crucial role in an affordable, reliable, clean energy grid of the future. Join me to discuss the opportunities and challenges of BESS in the decarbonized US energy economy and a case study of how BESS strengthens the US Department of Defense.
