Commercial Geothermal Heat Pumps is Now the Tax laws Favorite Technology

The Inflation Reduction Act (IRA) has positioned commercial geothermal heat pumps at the forefront of clean energy adoption by offering some of the most generous tax incentives available. This session will explore how geothermal technology uniquely qualifies for enhanced investment tax credits, direct pay opportunities for tax-exempt entities, and bonus credits tied to domestic content, prevailing wage, and energy community siting. We’ll break down how project developers, building owners, and institutions—ranging from universities to municipal facilities—are structuring deals to maximize these benefits. Attendees will learn how recent Treasury Department guidance has clarified credit transferability, elective payment mechanics, and accelerated depreciation, making geothermal projects more financially attractive than ever. With real-world case studies, this presentation will show how stakeholders are leveraging the IRA to deploy geothermal systems at scale, reduce long-term operating costs, and accelerate decarbonization goals. A closing Q&A will address practical financing and compliance strategies.
