Presentation Title:

Beyond Efficiency: Integration Energy Goals with Workforce Well-Being in Manufacturing

Track J: Professional Development

Session J4: Workforce Development

Day 3  9:30 am

Abstract:

The integration of natural elements such as daylighting, views, and nature into manufacturing and workplace environments plays a crucial role in enhancing energy efficiency, productivity, and employee well-being. This presentation explores the transformative power of these elements, highlighting how they contribute to creating more sustainable, health-focused, and efficient industrial spaces. Studies show that incorporating natural light can reduce energy consumption by up to 30% while improving employee productivity by 15%. With only 14% of Gen Z considering a career in manufacturing, innovative design strategies become essential in attracting and retaining new talent. By aligning design with energy reduction goals and leveraging incentives from the Inflation Reduction Act, companies can enhance their return on investment (ROI). These initiatives work synergistically with employee well-being goals, leading to reduced energy costs and promoting a healthier, more satisfied workforce. Case studies, including VEGA Americas, Inc.’s new facility in Mason, OH. demonstrate the real-world benefits of these integrated strategies. This discussion underscores the importance of shifting traditional manufacturing spaces toward more human-centric designs, ultimately resulting in heightened employee satisfaction and organizational success.
