Clean Heat in the Highlands: Scotland's Blueprint for Net Zero
Nestled in the heart of Scotland, where timeless landscapes combine with a rich engineering history, the Dunfermline Learning Campus (DLC) stands as a beacon of Net Zero ambition. A country known for its legendary past and engineering achievements, Scotland is now forging a new future — one where next-generation technology and sustainable design take center stage in the country’s pursuit of clean energy.
As part of the Net Zero Pathfinder (NZPSB) buildings program, the DLC is leading this change, harnessing advanced energy modelling and data analytics technology to ensure every building system and every kilowatt-hour of energy is optimized.
In this modern education campus, Air Source Heat Pumps (ASHP) provide clean heat through a decentralized and distributed network. Supported by photovoltaic (PV) panels, this living example of Scotland’s energy revolution is not just a school; it’s a model for the world. Real-time data analysis and energy modelling ensure that every system works in harmony, while helping to meet ambitious Net Zero goals.
Through Building Information Modelling (BIM) and Smart Metering, the campus becomes a Digital Twin offering live insights into energy performance. Measurement & Verification (M&V) Monitoring-Based Commissioning (MBCx) rollouts are seamlessly integrated into Post Occupancy Evaluation (POE) procedures. This innovative approach ensures ongoing efficiency, validating the clean heat systems in action, and setting a new benchmark for sustainable performance.
Scotland, long synonymous with heavy industry and coal-powered growth, is now rewriting its history. From the legacy of steel mills and coal mines to a future driven by renewable energy and sustainable innovation, the DLC exemplifies this remarkable transformation. Join us for this interactive poster session and discover how modern Scotland is becoming a global laboratory for Net Zero buildings and clean energy solutions.
