So you want to start a business?
Owning and running is business can be great or terrible, but usually both. The financial reward can be unimaginably great or unimaginably ruinous, and sometimes both. Do you have what it takes to start a business? Most of us do not. Many try and then quit. In this talk we will discuss the good and the bad of owning a business, and the psychological makeup you need to succeed. Success is 85% psychological and 15% skills.
John Avina, P.E., CEM, CEA, CMVP, CxA, has worked in energy analysis and utility bill tracking for over 25 years. He founded his company, Abraxas Energy Consulting, in 2001, and continues to run it today. His background is in engineering, not business. He has made many mistakes as a business owner that cost him hundreds of thousands of dollars. Piror to starting Abraxas, he has worked at Thermal Energy Applications Research Center, Johnson Controls, SRC Systems, and Silicon Energy. Mr. Avina currently chairs the Certified Energy Auditor Exam Committee for AEE. Mr. Avina has a MS in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Wisconsin-Madison.
