Remote Retrocommissioning During the Covid-19 Pandemic and into the Future

The presentation will provide an overview of the remote retrocommissioning projects performed at two IBM sites in the San Jose area during 2020 and 2021. It will cover how to effectively retrocommission complex facilities from offsite during periods of pandemic, when travel to the site is cost prohibitive, or when access to the site is limited. The two sites include a combined space of over 1 million SF, of which the retrocommissioning project focused on laboratory, data center, and office spaces. Due to the remote nature of the retrocommissioning project, large quantities of data were analyzed using statistical analysis software.

The implementation of energy efficiency measures at these sites is ongoing, but this project provides a unique example of supporting retrocommissioning remotely. Additionally, although a range of measures is being considered, the focus is on low to no-cost measures with a simple payback of one year or less, which is critical to meeting site energy efficiency goals.

Homa Naeimi is an Energy Engineer with Nexant Inc. Her experiences include managing utility incentivized Energy Efficiency programs, trade ally management, Energy Efficiency program designs, and Energy Efficiency Cost Effectiveness analysis.
As an engineer Homa provides energy auditing, energy savings analysis, quality assurance and performs Measurement and Verification (M&V) for a wide range of end uses and baselines at commercial and industrial facilities. Homa utilizes tools such as eQUEST, EnergyPro, STATA and spreadsheet based weather bins for energy savings analysis.
In addition, Homa has experience with Energy Efficiency Behavioral Interventions Data Analytics using Randomized Control Trial method.
Homa holds an MS in Mechanical Engineering from University of California, San Diego and BS degree in Mechanical Engineering from McGill University, Montreal, Canada.
