Tips for Success as a Small Energy Services Business

After a seventeen-year career in the corporate energy and environmental solutions industry, I decided to venture out and find success as an entrepreneur. I founded 2KB Energy Services in 2015, and we have been in successful operation since then. What began as a lifestyle business supporting local colleagues and clients has grown into a seven-figure boutique consulting firm operating across multiple states. In this session, attendees will hear stories from that journey, along with insights on navigating our industry learned along the way. I’ll share candid thoughts and experiences with people, planning, process, product, and profit from the perspective of a minority-owned small business enterprise.

George has been working in the energy efficiency field for over 20 years and has been directly involved with over $250M of energy and environmental solutions projects in the built environment. As the Founder and CEO of 2KB Energy Services, an energy management and sustainability consulting firm, he has had direct responsibility for coordinating and supporting diverse teams to ensure project results at all levels. He is active in the energy services community, serving on the Board of Directors for Southface and as the private sector co-chair for the Energy Services Coalition-Georgia Chapter. George holds a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering from Florida A&M University and an MBA from Georgia State University.
