Effects of Electric Utility Rates on Sustainability and Energy Efficiency in Industry

Electric utility rates have a significant impact on sustainability and energy efficiency in industry. Higher utility rates lead to increased production costs, encouraging businesses to invest in energy-efficient technologies, renewable energy options, and sustainability measures.

This presentation discusses steps businesses can follow to improve sustainability and energy efficiency despite high utility rates, for example:
• Participate in utility-sponsored energy efficiency and demand response programs that offer rebates and incentives for reducing energy usage during peak demand periods.
• Cost-benefits of renewable energy & storage systems to offset high utility rates.
• Work with policymakers & utility companies to advocate for more favorable energy policies that promote sustainability and energy efficiency in the industry.
• Conduct collaborative & interactive based energy audits (a.k.a. Energy Treasure Hunts)

Gary holds a ‘Master of Business Administration (MBA) in Sustainability’, aka “Green MBA”, and is Certified Lean Six Sigma Black Belt, Pr. Cert Eng. - GCC (Electrical Engineer – South Africa), Certified Master Building Inspector, Certified Indoor Air Quality Consultant (IAC2), Project Management Professional (PMP) and Certified EMF (Electromagnetic Field) Consultant. Gary’s 25 plus years of combined experience in the engineering profession, energy management training, and renewable energy business has built a solid foundation for his Energy Efficiency and Sustainability Consulting Company. This versatile leadership has been demonstrated with a consistent track record creating value in manufacturing, renewable energy, data management, technology through innovation, process improvement and developing results-orientated organizations.

As previous Chairman of the ICMEESA (Institution of the Certificated Mechanical and Electrical Engineers of South Africa), he inspired and engaged Engineers to deliver measurable results in the engineering and energy efficiency sectors. This passion led to his appointment of establishing and managing Eskom’s Industrial Energy Test and Demonstration Center in Port Elizabeth, South Africa. Since moving to the USA in 2001, Gary has worked closely with many Industrial and Commercial organizations to improve their production efficiencies in the usage of energy significantly.

Most notable is his leadership with Continental Tire (RSA & U.S.) to improve their energy efficiency and clean up the environment by reducing CO2 emissions, resulting in huge savings for the Company. Gary’s ENERGY STAR Partnership and Consulting work continues to guide organizations to deliver excellence in creating, enhancing, and sustaining the Company’s ‘Triple Bottom Line’, People, Planet, Profit.
