From Projects to Long-term Energy Program Design: ESG’s Impact on the Energy Program

At Hexion, the Corporate Energy Manager was historically focused on improving energy efficiencies and reducing energy consumption. This also extended to other utilities such as water or nitrogen. As the Sustainability Program developed within Hexion over the past decade, the efforts and impacts of the Energy Program naturally became a key element of the environmental aspects of the Sustainability Program. The evolving and increased importance of the Sustainability Program as a business imperative has resulted has multiple positive impacts to the Energy Program. Likewise, the strength and structure of the Energy Program has had positive impacts and accelerated the Sustainability Program. This presentation will focus on the synergistic influence and impacts between the Energy and Sustainability Programs along with the impact on the Corporate Energy Manager's role.

David Steiner is the Utilities and Environmental Sustainability Leader for Hexion, Inc. David has over 30 years of experience in the chemical manufacturing industry, with 17 years focused on energy efficiency improvements in manufacturing facilities. Over the past 12 years he has developed and strived to improve the Energy Management Program and Center of Excellence within Hexion. He especially enjoys working with sites to drive improvements, mentoring new associates, and providing subject matter expertise. Prior to his current role, David held numerous manufacturing leadership roles for Hexion and FMC Corporation. David has a bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering, an MBA, is a Six Sigma Black Belt, and Certified Energy Manager.
