Wastewater Heat Recovery: An Opportunity to Drive Resiliency, Savings and Decarbonization
Wastewater energy recovery, which uses heat pumps and specially designed heat exchangers able to handle raw sewage, is an underutilized resource. When designed and installed properly, wastewater energy recovery systems, such as Noventa’s Wastewater Energy Transfer ™ (WET™) system, can significantly benefit facilities through
-reduced energy and water use;
-a reduction in facility operations costs;
-increased resiliency and redundancy for building heating and cooling systems;
-transfer of operational risk; and,
-a significant reduction in greenhouse gas emissions.
The presentation will highlight the opportunity of wastewater energy recovery and how unique technology is used to overcome potential challenges in capturing thermal energy from raw sewage. Moving on to a case study on the installation of a Noventa WET™ System at the University Health Network’s Toronto Western Hospital, the presentation will describe the planning, investigation and collaboration that went into the project and show the broad range of benefits being provided to the hospital.
Speaker Bio
A proven leader in Environmental, Social and Governance strategy, Ed has been leading and developing environmental sustainability programs and teams for almost 25 years. Prior to joining Noventa, Ed leads the University Health Network’s award-winning Energy & Environment team, and was instrumental in spearheading numerous district energy, decarbonization, energy efficiency and sustainability projects. Ed’s work has been recognized with multiple awards including being honoured as a member of the 2018 Clean16.
