David Ahrens

David has been involved with the energy industry for more than 30 years. He is certified in 3 states as a P.E. David has been working with Energy Spectrum, Inc. (ESI) for more than 20 years. ESI was founded in 1997 as a full-service independent energy management company located in New York City. The company has been providing a wide array of energy management and consulting services to a diverse market segment throughout the Tri-State area and beyond. Commercial office buildings, Universities, large residential complexes, retailers, sports complexes, medical facilities, government institutions, and industrial centers have all benefited from ESI's in-depth industry knowledge and expertise, which focuses on lowering energy costs while providing best in class operational efficiency.
David leads ESI’s Demand Response program and is an active member of the NY Independent System Operator’s Installed Capacity and Price Responsive Load Working groups. He is knowledgeable about the functions of bulk electricity systems and wholesale markets. He has been involved in Demand Response presentations to the NYISO Board of Directors.
David has been the Registered Design Professional on over 300 ASHRAE Level II studies and retro commissioning reports submitted to the NYC DOB, representing over 28 million square feet of educational facilities to multifamily buildings to medical campuses.
David has also certified over 10 million square feet for US EPA Energy Star Certification for Commercial and Multifamily buildings.
David has personally brought clients over $ 50 Million in energy incentives through Federal, State, and local programs. Projects have ranged from BMS upgrades to cogeneration projects to new construction of LEED buildings.
David and the ESI team have realized over $ 19 Million in utility errors and tax refunds for clients.
David is leading a team that will provide more than 900 NYC buildings NYC LL 97 greenhouse gas emission limit certification in 2024.
